"Just when your inner, hopelessly jaded music self thought you'd heard it all... along come the Born Again Floozies." Steve Holtjie, The Big Takeover (U.S. and Canada)
"Life-sustaining enjoyment" Tiffany Kilfeather, CMJ (College Music Journal)
Grammy award-winning producer Ben Fowler and Joey Welch present The Voluptuous Panic, an existential exploration of memory and place, a rampage of love and innovation. The Born Again Floozies’ new album, The Voluptuous Panic hits August 15th, 2012. Mastered by Hank Williams (MasterMix Nashville, TN), recorded at The Sound Emporium in Nashville, TN.
“The spirit of the Minutemen awakened by the guitar playing"-David Cowling, Americana UK
"Fantastic!" Simon Mayo, BBC Radio
The Floozies are a formidable cast: tap dancer Michele Long, turntablist Mike Graves, “apotement” guitarist and vocalist, Joey Welch, drummer Vincent Jackson, and bassist Bret Cantrell. The Born Again Floozies mix Tuba, trombone, trumpet, hip hop and orchestral percussion to produce an unprecedented sonic landscape.
The full title, The Voluptuous Panic or Earthquake Revolution reveals there are two sections to this body of work. The collection is an auto-fictional account of life in a middle-western “nowhere”, an exploration of memory and place and how the two intertwine and continue to inform an existence.
Joey Welch continues to explore his experimental "Apotement" guitar style to great effect throughout this record. "You Know The Truth" ventures into the romantic piano technique of Frederic Chopin, with quick yet lilting double-octave arpeggios on the guitar, other times wailing on his Gibson ES 175 like Stevie Wonder plays the Clavinova.
The Floozies first toured Ireland in a horse-drawn gypsy wagon. Joey Welch developed his aggressive, unique guitar style busking the streets of 4 continents. Welch has toured the U.S. playing 260 shows a year. The Floozies recorded three albums with world-renowned engineer/producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) and garnered accolades from all over the world. The Floozies’ first two releases both debuted at #11 on the CMJ national Top Adds chart, then spent 8 - 10 weeks on the CMJ Top 100.
